We are raising an entire generation in a world where technology companies compete for every moment of their attention.
Children are surrounded by smartphones, social media, addictive algorithms, endless scrolling, and digital entertainment designed to keep them engaged for as long as possible.
Meanwhile, parents are exhausted, teachers are overwhelmed, and children are increasingly expected to navigate a digital environment that even adults struggle to control.
And when children have difficulty concentrating, listening, learning, or connecting with others, we often blame them.
But who created the environment they're growing up in?
My new Gaia Knights song, PAY ATTENTION, explores this question through the everyday experiences of children, parents, and teachers.
It tells the story of a child trying to get a parent's attention, a student struggling in the classroom, an exhausted mother handing her child a tablet, and the powerful digital systems constantly calling young people back to their screens.
But the song is about something much bigger than technology.
It's about the childhood experiences we're losing—and the human connections we need to restore.
“Childhood is practice for being human.”
Children need time to play, imagine, explore, make friends, resolve disagreements, experience disappointment, and learn how to interact with the world around them.
These are essential parts of growing up.
Why I Support Stronger Protections for Children
As part of my Protecting the Children policy platform, I support prohibiting social media access for children under 16, establishing healthier screen-time boundaries, and creating phone-free learning environments in our K–12 schools.
These proposals are not about rejecting technology or denying its benefits.
They're about recognizing that children deserve special protections during critical years of development—and that companies profiting from capturing their attention should not be allowed to determine the conditions of childhood.
Parents and teachers cannot solve these problems alone. We need policies that support families, protect children, and place their long-term well-being ahead of corporate profits.
We must also recognize the pressures on working parents and the importance of giving families more time together.
The responsibility belongs to all of us.

I invite you to watch this complete Gaia Knights music video and consider the questions it raises.
The song isn't intended to blame children, parents, or teachers. It's a call for all of us to recognize what is happening and take responsibility for creating a healthier future.
“The children aren't failing us. We're failing the children.”
If this song speaks to you, please LIKE the video on YouTube, leave a COMMENT, and SHARE it with parents, grandparents, teachers, and others who care about the future of our children.
Because protecting childhood isn't just about limiting screen time.
It's about giving children back the time, attention, relationships, and experiences they need to become healthy, capable, compassionate human beings.
